We decided at the last meeting that the subcommittees are to meet over the next couple of weeks to discuss and develop a plan for their area of focus.

Each subcommittee should appoint a spokesperson to update the larger group at our next meeting at the end of June (date to be announced). It would also be useful if each subcommittee would send John K. a summary of your update to post on the blog, or post as a comment under the subcommittee you are updating.

Map Committee: Develop a walking map of the venues. People on committee: Maryann, Rachel, Silvia June 9, 2008

1. Judy Mastrocola came to speak with the group again regarding the project she is doing for the “Leonard Florence Center for Living” in Admiral’s Hill. She is trying to organize a fundraiser to raise money to help in the expenses for the cost of care of people that will be living at the center with ALS & MS. On either October 23rd or 30th (date TBD), they will be doing an art appreciation dinner and fundraiser called “Art on the Hill”. She was requesting that artists either donate or show their work that evening to promote the arts in Chelsea. If we donated the work, then she would do an auction with some of the proceeds going back to the artists and some to the Center…(these details are yet to be determined). The building has many opportunities in which to showcase the work. She suggested that someone should go there and she can show them the space to get a better idea of how much art and scale of art is needed. John and Darlene and anyone else interested will go to see the building. Darlene will email Judy some names of contacts that may be interested: Jack Hoar for the piano and Bonnie Woods for landscape architecture. We should let Judy know asap if we are interested in participating. **(we should put this on the next meetings agenda points)

2. May 2009 planning: We need to nail down a few things before we can go ahead with grant proposals, talking to Chamber of Commerce, etc.
* The first thing we need is a name for the event; some ideas were tossed around- we’d like to come up with more or have people vote on the ones already here:
ART ACROSS THE BRIDGE
CHELSEA ART WALK
ARTS AROUND CHELSEA
CHELSEA ARTS FESTIVAL
CHELSEA OPEN GALLERIES
* Next, we need to confirm the participating venues; here’s a list of possibilities:
Gallery @ Spencer Lofts (confirmed)
Pearl Street Gallery (confirmed)
Chelsea City Cafe
TheatreZone
City Hall Gallery (confirmed)
outdoor space @ Temple Emmanuel
Keen Studios
Forbes Lofts
* Also, we are thinking of having some of the Galleries as “themed” shows; some ideas were also discussed, but open to more ideas or thoughts on the existing ones:
East Boston/Charcoll group show (theme still tbd)
Portrait show (mixed media)
Urban landscape (mixed media)
3by3 (mixed media)
political or social theme (empire/globalization, etc)
have a venue dedicated to a specific meduim (ie:photography) or a few different artists
Interactive exhibit (children & adult)…collaborative mural painting, etc
**FOR ABOVE DETAILS, WE’D LIKE TO DECIDE ON THESE AT THE NEXT MEETING SO WE CAN MOVE FORWARD. (Scott Kelley will try to set up a ‘blog’ for everyone to put their ideas and thoughts in).

3. We also talked about the idea of the art not being ‘limited’ to painting, photography, etc. Maybe we can find some artists from the Theaterzone to do spoken word or poetry. Also, musicians are welcome. We thought that maybe Ida Rudolph would like to set up a bench and do her “Let’s Talk” with people in the community.

4. possible dates for the show: MAY 16TH/17TH 2009 (weekend before Memorial Day)

5. Some of the themed shows maybe juried; will discuss more once themes & venues are chosen. Each particitpating gallery will be responsible for their own jury process.

6. Talked about possibility of having a Call for Artists to get more people involved.

7. NEXT MEETING: TUESDAY JUNE 3RD 7:30PM JOHN’S PLACE.
